Grameenphone holds 28th Annual General Meeting

-170% cash dividend approved

[Dhaka, 23 April, 2025] The 28th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Grameenphone Ltd. has concluded successfully on Wednesday 23 April 2025. In alignment with the guidelines laid out by the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), Grameenphone held its AGM virtually over a digital platform, ensuring seamless and meaningful engagement of our shareholders, which is vital to the company’s collective growth and prosperity.
Håkon Bruaset Kjøl, Chair of Grameenphone Board, Yasir Azman, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Grameenphone, Otto Magne Risbakk, Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Grameenphone, S.M. Imdadul Haque, Company Secretary, Grameenphone, and other Board members and senior officials of the company attended the AGM.


HĂĄkon Bruaset Kjøl, Chair of the Grameenphone Board, said, “Grameenphone navigated 2024 by focusing on customer-centric innovation to meet the evolving needs of our subscribers. In a challenging year, we continued to play a pivotal role in advancing the digitalisation journey of Bangladesh while making significant strides toward our ambition of becoming a future-ready telco-tech company.”  

He also added, “Enabling digital progress on a national scale remained at the top of Grameenphone’s agenda in 2024. We are active contributors to upskilling communities in Bangladesh, providing essential digital skills and online safety training which foster inclusivity and safety in the digital world. We want to ensure that connectivity becomes a force for transformative change and remain dedicated to building a thriving and inclusive digital future for all in Bangladesh.”


Yasir Azman, CEO of Grameenphone, said, “2024 has been a transformative year for Grameenphone, driven by innovation and resilience amid macroeconomic challenges. We embraced technological advancements, inclusivity, and customer satisfaction, progressing toward becoming a telco-tech leader. We built a future-ready network, strengthened our core offerings and launched customer-centric solutions. By leveraging AI, analytics, and innovation, we enhanced efficiency and focused on delivering greater value to our customers with a refreshed portfolio. We welcomed 2.3 million new subscribers, reaching 84.3 million customers. Our internet user base reached 48 million, representing 57% of our total subscribers, with 42 million actively using 4G—an 11.7% year-over-year increase. Our simple, innovative data packs, expansive content access and digital services contributed 28% to mobile communication revenue. We invested BDT 39 billion in network modernisation, enhancing voice and data services, rolled out 2600 MHz to 30% of macro sites and expanded 4G coverage to 97.9% by deploying over 1,758 new 4G sites. With BDT 123 billion contributed to the National Exchequer, our impact extended beyond business. Innovations like App City, AI-powered networks, IoT and FlexiPlan reflected our operational excellence, while a unified license boosted our customer market share by 1.7%. We empowered youth through GP Academy and Futurenation Skills Hubs. Aligned with our ESG values, 72% of our partnerships with our partners focus on carbon reduction, while initiatives like discounted smartphones empower women and bridge the digital divide—driving a more inclusive, sustainable future for Bangladesh.”


During the meeting, the Board of Directors approved a final cash dividend for 2024 at the rate of 170% of the paid-up capital, amounting to BDT 17 per share of BDT 10 each, representing 122.73% of the Profit After Tax for the year.

How GPAY Works!

To use GPAY, customers can download the GPAY mobile app from the App Store/Google Store and register through this app. Customers can register by dialing *777# from any mobile handset. Once the registration is complete, customers can pay the bill of any of the above-mentioned services. Customers can use their bank account (Rocket, AB Bank, Islami Bank) or any Mobicash outlet to refill their GPAY wallet.

Overall:

  • Internet packs can be activated through MyGP, USSD, MFS, IVR, Customer Service, GP website and any other Grameenphone Authorized Retail & Digital Channels
  • Auto-renew option of any internet pack is turned OFF by default (except BS prepaid and post- paid customers). However, customer can turn ON Auto Renewal feature after or during package activation.
  • To turn ON/OFF auto renew option after package activation, visit MyGP or dial *121*3#.
  • To check internet balance, please dial *121*1*4#.
  • After expiration (Volume or Validity) of every internet pack maximum PayGo charge will be 6.95 Taka (inclusive VAT, SD & SC)
  • Unused data Volume will be carried forward if the customer purchases the same pack within the active validity period or in case of successful auto renewal.
  • To Cancel your Internet Package, dial *121*3041#.
  • To enjoy higher internet speed, customers need to use a 4G/5G enabled phone & 4G SIM.
  • Average likely speed will depend on multiple factors such as handset, website visited, distance from BTS, time of the day, etc.

VoLTE (Voice over LTE) is a technology that enables voice calling over 4G. Also, users can experience HD quality crystal clear voice with faster call setup time. Without VoLTE, your phone must drop back to 2G and 3G during voice calls. VoLTE allows users to stay on the 4G network during voice calls and can continue to have un-interrupted high-speed 4G internet experience. VoLTE calls will be charged in exactly the same manner as 2G and 3G voice calls. There are no additional data charges.

HD Voice Calls: Crystal clear conversations as if you are right next to each other. Faster Call Connect: Call setup time is way faster than normal calls. Efficient Multi-tasking: You can now make calls without disrupting your 4G internet sessions Improved Battery Life: You will experience less battery drain during call and internet sessions. To enjoy our VoLTE services, both caller and receiver should ensure the pre-requisites.

To enjoy our VoLTE services, both caller and receiver should ensure following:

  • USIM/4G SIM. This should be inserted in the SIM slot with data capability and “network mode” as 4G/3G/2G (Auto)
  • VoLTE enabled Handset and enable VoLTE option in the phone
  • To be in GP 4G coverage.
  • Need to have the upgraded OS Software provided by your handset manufacturer
