Grameenphone, in collaboration with Telenor and Plan International, hosted the Stories of Transformation from Digital Inclusion project on November 28 at GP House, Dhaka. The event celebrated the life-changing impact of the beneficiaries of Digital Inclusion Project with Marginalized Communities through powerful narratives shared by those whose lives were transformed.
The event began with a warm welcome from Tanveer Mohammad, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer (CCAO) of Grameenphone, followed by a compelling keynote delivered by Rasna Hasan, Digital Inclusion Lead at Grameenphone, and Khurshid Ara, Project Lead from Plan International. They shared insights into the project’s journey and remarkable achievements and lasting legacy.
Stories That Inspire Change
Naisha Chowdhury Mim, 23, Narayanganj
As a transgender woman, Mim faced relentless societal bullying that left her isolated and vulnerable. She shared, “The Digital Inclusion project gave me the strength to reclaim my identity and dignity. It’s not just about digital skills; it’s about showing us we matter.” Mim now dreams of helping others in her community access similar opportunities to rise above prejudice.
Atikur Rahman, Rajshahi
Born with hearing and speech impairments, Atikur Rahman often felt invisible in a world that thrived on communication he couldn't access. His passion for photography seemed distant, stifled by barriers and self-doubt. But joining the Digital Inclusion Project changed everything. It taught him to navigate the internet safely, opening doors to knowledge and creativity. "I never thought I could interact online without fear," he shared through sign language. With newfound skills, he explored photography tutorials and connected with online communities. Now, Atikur is chasing his dream of becoming a professional photographer and preparing to enroll in university. The internet has become a powerful tool, transforming his future and proving that with the right support, no dream is too far out of reach.
Mst Khushi, Lalmonirhat
A survivor of child marriage, Khushi overcame despair with newfound hope through e-commerce training. Her voice trembled with pride as she said, “What began as an experiment has turned into my livelihood. My online clothing business now supports my family and inspires others in my village.”
Shima Akhter Srity, Gaibandha
Forced to leave college due to a battle with cancer, Shima found solace in the project’s training sessions. She leveraged social media to advocate against online bullying and harassment, collaborating with Radio Sarabela to raise awareness. “The internet gave me back a purpose when I thought I’d lost everything,” she said.
A Vision for the Future
The Sharing Session also featured Yasir Azman, CEO of Grameenphone, and local partners who shared heartfelt discussions about the broader impact of the Digital Inclusion Project. Yasir Azman warmly emphasized, “This initiative is not just bridging the gaps in digital literacy—it is fostering online safety, unlocking new opportunities, and transforming the lives of marginalized groups, particularly women and youth.” The Digital Inclusion Project is more than just a program; it is a movement that bridges the digital divide and redefines inclusion in today’s fast-changing world. By empowering individuals with connectivity and digital literacy, Grameenphone is helping build a future where everyone, regardless of their background, can thrive and contribute to a more inclusive and equitable society.
